John Ohman started in the commodity and securities industry in 1983. After achieving many production awards including the title of First Vice President – Investments with a major broker/dealer, he founded Flatirons Capital Management, LLC (FCM) in 1996 with the goal of maximizing the profitability of mortgage companies.
He developed a proprietary system for hedging mortgage originations against fluctuations in interest rates and uncertain loan closing percentages. This system utilized basic financial algorithms, including price regression analysis and Black Sholes Option Pricing analytics. The hedging process was built so that mortgage clients received information multiple times a day to ensure that anticipated revenues were being achieved in the face of market volatility and business uncertainty. In 2015, FCM hedged in excess of $6 billion in mortgage originations.
In March of 2016, he sold his interest in Flatirons Capital Management LLC to employees of Flatirons. He is looking forward to the opening of new horizons by taking his 30-plus years of experience and applying this knowledge of hedging and the market place to a broad array of businesses who seek expert advice on hedging with futures and options on futures.
